Description
Frost Dodger is the flagship Shiraz made by Torzi Matthews from their Mt McKenzie vineyard in the Eden Valley.  After a few years hiatus, the Frost Dodger Shiraz returns with the 2021 vintage; the 13th release of this limited release, single vineyard wine crafted via the traditional Italian ‘appassimento’ style dry racking.
All fruit for the 2021 Torzi Matthews Frost Dodger Shiraz were hand harvest and gently destemmed including 20% whole bunch into open top milk vats and fermented naturally with soft pump overs and basket pressed to barrel to complete ferment. Aged in 30% new French oak hogshead barrels, with balance of seasoned 3yr old French hogshead barrels for 14 months, this is bottled unfined and unfiltered.Â
The result is a generous, complex shiraz bursting with lovely aromatics, and plenty of intense black cherry and blue fruit flavour. With a nice underlying savouriness, wonderful fine tannin and loads of enjoyment, this is sure to be a hugely popular release from Torzi Matthews.
